Stella Smith is an Asian-American actress. She portrays Artemis Crock in a recurring role on Stargirl.

Her role of Artemis was credited as co-starring throughout Season 1 and the first three episodes of Season 2. From "Summer School: Chapter Four" onwards, she is credited as a guest star.

Biography[]

Stella Smith is an Asian-American actress known for portraying Artemis Crock on The CW series Stargirl and Teenage Grace on Black Lightning. Stella was named after the character Stella Kowalski from A Streetcar Named Desire, so her parents must have known acting would be her passion. Stella is now signed with Paradigm Talent Agency, Cohen Entertainment and SBV Talent. Her other passions are kickboxing and traveling. Her favorite place she has visited so far has been Dubai.[1]

  • Stella previously portrayed a teenage Grace Choi in Black Lightning, a fellow DC series that aired on The CW.
  • She is the first actress to portray Artemis Crock in a live-action adaptation.
  • On June 26, 2020 Neil Hopkins and Stella Smith did an AMA over on the Stargirl Reddit forum where they answered a couple of fan questions. [2]
    • Stella knew the show she was auditioning for was Stargirl, but they used a mock script and a different character name.
    • Another Reddit user asks Stella in the AMA if she knows which version of the Artemis character the show is basing it on (comics, Young Justice cartoon, or reinventing her for the show). To which Stella replied that the show is combining different elements of each version that has appeared in the media.
    • She also mentioned that when it comes to her character, Stella did some slight research, but mostly based Artemis on what was written in the scripts.
    • Stella also stated that she'd be open to playing a heroic Artemis or a more villainous one. She also mentioned that in terms of inspiration, she's really been using Joy and Neil to determine the personality traits of Artemis.
  • She was promoted from a co-star to a guest star in Season 2.
