This idea was presented to us by a fellow editor. It would just change our URL from stargirltv.fandom.com to stargirl.fandom.com. The second URL was being used for the Disney+ film, however, it is basically a dead wiki. Personally, I think it's a great opportunity.
I think it’s great idea as well. We will definitely have more traffic than the Disney+ wiki of the same name. So I'd say we should go for it if nobody in the admin team opposes the idea. I think in addition, we can also bring this up with Mike and our WM Kylara.
It is a great opportunity, though usurping is not the recommended course of action here. We may need to discuss on how to proceed with this kind of thing with Kylara, as the reason of it being a "dead wiki" is not fair for us to just take their URL. Besides, few editors have started editing on that wiki, so it's not dead, just obscure and deserted by many.
I completely understand where you're coming from. The textbook definition of "usurping" implies little tact. But it's more of a URL merge then "stealing" the URL. But all-in-all, it worked out in our favor and everyone is happy!
CosmotheChocobo wrote: I meant the "usurping" part isn't recommended. I totally agree with having moved to the new URL, just that we most probably had to process it with tact. All in all, glad the move worked out great!
We were certainly imo processing it with tact. It's why we posted this thread, so that it was out in the public, and not like we were working on shrouded in secrecy. Plus, the whole conversation came about because a user in the Community Council Slack Channel brought it up. Hence why we decided to talk about it as an admin team, and brough it up to Kylara, our WM. Who yes, managed to get us the stargirl.fandom.com url. :) So all's well that ends well.
You weren't overreacting at all! I completely understand where you were coming from. I think you probably just misunderstood the situation or weren't informed completely, which is totally on me. But, I'm glad we could resolve it as a group! If you have any questions hmu :)
Hi again! Checking in to see how things are going, and I want to make sure that you catch these important Fandom updates.
The Unified Community Platform (UCP) is coming this year, which means that all Fandom Wikis will be getting some much-needed renovations (and new features!) as we move to an upgraded version of MediaWiki. Check out the Staff blog post UCP: The Vision, Purpose, and Process for information on the roll out plan, which will come out this year in stages.
Hey! I was just hoping you could explain or talk me through your reasons for renaming the JSA pages? It made more sense to me when they were named the other way, since the group is going to be searched/linked more. But I'd like to hear your opinion and thoughts.
In terms of uniformity, I was thinking that if we have the "Stargirl" page not named as "Stargirl (show)" (which would make more sense if we want readers to be redirected to "Courtney Whitmore" when they search for just "Stargirl"), then we should have episode pages be named accordingly as well. But I was also totally thinking about the other way around, like you said, so I'll go ask Selena's (FD) thoughts on this.
Sounds great! And yes, having the series page as "Stargirl (TV Series)" is on the to-do list of things to run by everyone and potentially change. If you want we can collaborate on these kinds of things and bounce our thoughts off one another. Either here or on Discord. I look forward to talking with ya in the future :)
As of today, I have given you rights on this wiki since we're merging both Stargirl Wikis. Welcome aboard! I have giving you Bureaucrat/Admin rights here. <3 Fearless Diva 00:50, December 21, 2019 (UTC)
Hi again, FD and Cosmo! I think we've pulled everything we need from the other wiki for the merge, so I'm putting in a request for it to finally be closed and forwarded. I've also implemented some general changes to the main page (kinda hard to have a character section with so few named characters!), but certainly feel free to make any changes as you like.
Thank you both for working together, and let me know if you have any questions or anything!
