Joy Osmanski (born October 29, 1975) is a Korean-American actress. She portrays Paula Brooks/Tigress as a guest star in seasons one and two of Stargirl.[1] Joy was promoted to a series regular for season three of the series.

Joy Kathleen Osmanski is a Korean-American actress, dancer and mother of three has established herself as one of Hollywood’s hardest working entertainers. Currently, she can also be seen in the Animation Domination series “Duncanville”.
Born in South Korea and adopted at a young age by her American parents, Osmanski had a drive and appreciation for the arts when she began ballet lessons at the age of three in her hometown of Olympia, Washington. She attended Principia College and graduated within three years with a degree in creative writing and studio art. She began her career as a graphic designer and moved to Boston and then San Francisco where she created her own graphic design company. Osmanski continued to work on her ballet and dance skills and went on to book professional gigs on the side. After seeing a notice for auditions for a local production of “Our Town,” she auditioned for the play and was cast in the lead role. Following her performance, Osmanski auditioned and received her MFA from UC San Diego, one of the top three professional actor training programs in the country.
Osmanski moved to Los Angeles with her husband Corey Brill and has continued to work steadily in theater, television and film, booking roles in hit projects including “The Loop,” “Santa Clarita Diet,” “The Fosters,” “Fired Up” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”.
When Osmanski isn’t busy in front of the camera or in a studio, she can be found spending timing with her husband and three kids, walking their dog or taking care of their beehives and cultivating their own honey. Osmanski also likes to spend her time keeping fit by doing weight training, yoga and cardio.[2]

Osmanski was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted by American parents. A DNA test uncovered significant Japanese ancestry. She graduated from Principia College with a degree in creative writing and studio art, and from the University of California, San Diego with an MFA from the graduate acting program.

Joy is best known for playing the recurring character Maggie Tompkins in the NBC show Save Me starring Anne Heche. She has also voiced Julie in the FOX animated show Allen Gregory, created by and also starring Jonah Hill. She has also starred as the recurring character Winnie Hyde in the unaired NBC series Next Caller created by Stephen Falk.
She had a guest starring position in the ABC sitcom Better Off Ted as Lucy and also guest starred in the FX TV series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as Jackie. She also had notable recurring roles in Samantha Who? as Tracy and in Grey's Anatomy as surgical intern Lucy. She was recurring in the sitcom True Jackson, VP as Ms. Park.
She has also appeared in the TV shows Good Job, Thanks!, Men of a Certain Age (as Lindsey), Dwelling (as Thai Lady), Chaos (as Unchin Song), and Numb3rs. She has also starred in the TV movies Family Album (as Holly Shapiro), Nathan vs. Nurture (as Lexi Miller), and Five Year Plan (as Judy).
Joy has appeared in the feature films Fired Up! (as curious cheerleader) and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (as airline rep). For independent films, Joy stars as Jinnie Park in Christine Yoo's film Wedding Palace opposite Brian Tee, and also stars as Amy in Dave Boyle's films, Surrogate Valentine and Daylight Savings. She also stars as Mary in Dave Boyle's film White on Rice. She also had a recurring role as Joy in Devious Maids. In 2017, she appeared in the Netflix comedy series Santa Clarita Diet.
Joy has also provided the voice of the Failsafe AI, a non-playable character in Bungie's video game Destiny 2 alongside Nolan North, Lance Reddick, Nathan Fillion, and more.
Trivia[]
- Joy was in a play when she got the audition for Stargirl, though it was coded so she didn't know that the role was Paula/Tigress or a DC project. She did a self-tape and sent it in as she loved the script so much. After she booked the role she was sent the real breakdown of the character, and initially didn't believe that it was real. She fell down a rabbit hole of online information about Stargirl.
- Joy modified her smile when she plays Paula, as the character only smiles for societal formalities.
- She is adopted as an infant. Her on-screen daughter Stella Smith was also adopted.
- When Joy graduated college she became a graphic designer.
- She previously played an oncologist on The Fosters who treated Meg DeLacy's character.
