Yeah, but I'm not even that. I'm the JSA's charity case. Heck, Pat, on paper, Thunderbolt is more powerful than Green Lantern, Flash, all of 'em combined, but in my hands... it's nothing but another mess for the JSA to clean up.
Johnny to Pat

Johnny Thunder is a minor character in The CW and DC Universe series, Stargirl.

As the wielder of the legendary and all-powerful Thunderbolt, Johnny was a member of the Justice Society of America. He fought valiantly alongside them when needed, but was often sidelined due to the uncontrollable nature of his companion and only brought into the field as a last resort.

Biography[]

On December 24th, 2010, Johnny Thunder stayed at the Justice Society of America Headquarters with Pat Dugan, both having been sidelined during the battle against the ISA. However, Wildcat arrived and informed them that ISA had Solomon Grundy on their side - it was now all hands on deck. Johnny joined Wildcat in the elevator while Pat was forced to stay behind as he had a son to think of. Johnny bid his friend farewell, but promised to join him for eggnog after the battle. Things at the battle went south quickly, as the JSA were overwhelmed by the ISA's powers and preparedness. Johnny was ultimately killed by Brainwave.

Season 2[]

In a flashback to eleven years ago, Pat is working on his car when Johnny enters the garage. He remarks that after they worked to get everyone back together to fight the ISA, they decided to bench Johnny. Pat relates as Starman asked him to stay behind to get the Rocket Racer ready just in case. They both know being benched it's great and that it's rough on their egos, but Pat trusts whatever Sylvester thinks is best. Johnny remarks that's spoken like a true sidekick, which Pat thinks there's nothing wrong with being. Johnny stands to say he sin't even a sidekick, just the JSA's charity case. He shows Pat the pink pen, remarking that it's more powerful than Green Lantern or The Flash, but in his hands, it's just another mess for the JSA to clean up. Pat feels sympathy for Johnny and invites him to have some eggnog with a little kick. Johnny rubs his hands together excitedly as he likes a little kick. Before they can enjoy it, Wildcat enters the garage to tell them the ISA have Solomon Grundy on their side. Pat is excited to lend some backup, but Wildcat briskly retorts that it's members only. He presses that Pat has a kid to look out for which is the most important thing. Johnny and Wildcat enter the elevator, preparing to leave. Johnny sticks his hand to the side and states that when he gets back they'll have that eggnog. He gives Stripesy a thumbs-up as the elevator doors close.[1]

Personality[]

Johnny was quiet, calm, and often doubted his abilities. He viewed himself as a sidekick and was often morose about his role, believing that he was only there so the JSA didn't have to clean up after him and the Thunderbolt. According to Thunderbolt, all his wielders have the same overwhelming feeling of being alone; and even as he was about to die, Johnny's last thoughts and actions were in the Thunderbolt's best interests, wishing that he finds another friend and new master after Johnny, and not living his life alone and unused. Johnny's death would have a deep impact on the Thunderbolt, being that merely recounting time with his former master was enough to bring the normally-rambunctious being into a contemplative state.

Physical Appearance[]

Johnny was a moderately tall man with a slim build, pale blonde-white hair, and hazel eyes. He had a long face and a drooped demeanor that often reflected his emotional distress. Despite his timid nature, Johnny dressed in the most flamboyant outfit of the JSA members. He donned a vibrant green suit matched with a bright pink bowtie.
