Season 3 (subtitled Stargirl: Frenemies) is the third and final season of The CW series Stargirl. On May 3, 2021, Stargirl was renewed for its third season ahead of its second season premiere.[1] It premiered on August 31, 2022, on Wednesdays,[2] and concluded on December 7, 2022, at 9:00 pm after thirteen consecutive episodes.[3] On January 6, 2023, Season 3 became available on HBO Max.

Synopsis[]
The CW drama series DC’S STARGIRL follows high school student Courtney Whitmore and her stepfather Pat Dugan as she leads an unlikely group of young heroes to take on the legacy of DC’s very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America. The third season finds Starman back from the dead and offering to train Courtney while she helps him adjust to his new life in the quiet town of Blue Valley. But when there’s a murder that needs to be solved, the mystery will not only have our heroes questioning the former super-villains’ commitment to truly reforming, but lead Courtney and Pat to a secret that will shock them both to their very core.[4]

- Stargirl was renewed ahead of its second season premiere, as The CW sought stability in their future lineups.[1]
- When speaking on the renewal, CW president Mark Pedowitz said, “While each boasts remarkable talent on both sides of the camera, Kung Fu and DC’s Stargirl have not only treated fans to some visually stunning action and high-flying heroics, but they also both strike very powerful emotional chords as they delve into the family dynamics and personal relationships at their core, and we are so excited to see what happens next.”[1]
- The pick-up of Stargirl, meanwhile, is part of a deal between The CW and HBO Max to co-finance the show. The show originally aired as part of DC Universe, but was renewed for a second season by The CW in summer 2020 and a deal was worked out between the broadcast network and the streamer where The CW gets first run followed by its launch on HBO Max.[1]
- The series moves to the Fall slot for the first time since its debut. It also takes Wednesday nights for the first time, but retains its 8-9 PM slot time.[2]
- Neil Hopkins (Larry Crock) and Joy Osmanski (Paula Brooks) were promoted to series regulars for this season.[5] They previously appeared as recurring guest stars in Season 1 and Season 2.
- Stargirl graphic designer Shawn McBee confirmed that the series would not be moving to Vancouver for Season 3, but rather, they would stay in Atlanta as they had in previous seasons.[6] He later reiterated that he had information from the highest authority that not only would the series not leave Atlanta for Season 3, but there were no foreseeable moves in the future.[7]
- Season 3 production began on October 4th, 2021.
- Yvette Monreal arrived in Georgia on September 26, 2021. The cast had already shipped their cars by the 22nd.[8]
- Joel McHale will be part of the cast in some capacity, as he stated in an interview with Anjelika Washington that he would be joining her in Georgia "soon".[9]
- The first table read for the season was held on October 1, 2021.
- The confirmed attendees of the virtual table read were Brec Bassinger, Cameron Gellman, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Alkoya Brunson, Neil Hopkins, Joy Osmanski, Stella Smith, Joel McHale, and Jonathan Cake.
- The capacity in which some of these cast members appear (starring, guest starring, co-starring) is unknown at this time.
- A portion of the script also teased a conversation between Sylvester Pemberton and Courtney Whitmore.
- James Dale Robinson wrote the seventh and twelfth episode of the season.
Notes and Trivia[]
- The theme for Season 3 is a murder-mystery, while also dealing with heroes and villains living side-by-side to solve the murder.
- The theme of the season was inspired by Knives Out.
- One episode is titled "Infinity, Inc Part One" while it's subsequent episode is titled "Infinity, Inc Part Two".[10] Previously, all thirteen episodes had been listed as following the chapter format from Season 2.
- Because of the off-screen chemistry between Meg DeLacy and Yvette Monreal, Geoff Johns made a conscious decision to explore the dynamic between Cindy and Yolanda. Meg teased that the relationship is very mean-girl-esque with a lot of retorts. She found it fun for Cindy to be mean towards Yolanda and having that thrown back at her by Yolanda.[11]
- Anjelika Washington teased that Beth and Cindy might become friends this season.
- During Stargirl Aftershow the cast teased Season 3 while reflecting on Season 2.
- Cameron Gellman teased that Beth and Rick have some "crazy scenes together", and that it's much different than the previous two seasons.
- Brec Bassinger teased that the incredibly slow burn of Camney has more to unfold this season. Cameron added that there's more relationship-talk this season than prior.
- Anjelika Washington revealed that Beth's goggles light up on their own now, and they don't need CGI or animatronics. The day the prop was given to her, she started to cry happy tears. In the interview, while talking about the light-up goggles, she began to cry over how much it meant to both Beth and herself.
- Hootie will not be appearing this season, as the owl is very expensive.
- Because Keith David and Jim Gaffigan are voice over actors, the cast never met either of them.
- Season 3 introduces the series first out-gay superhero Todd Rice.[12]
- Brec Bassinger teased multiple storylines during The CW's upfront event.
- The relationship between Courtney and Cameron is further explored as they finally develop a relationship.
- The Crock's are living next door to the Whitmore-Dugan family.
- Cosmo will "literally" whimper over who to go to - Courtney or Sylvester. There's also struggle over who to wield the staff and who will listen to it.
- Unfortunately, ever since October 16th, the CW channel has encountered complications from Verizon, making the last seven episodes inaccessible to most fans. However, the episodes are still available for all US fans on The CW app.
- Hunter Sansone gets more screen time as Cameron Mahkent in season 3 than he did in the previous two seasons.
