Synopsis[]

THE FINAL SHOWDOWN - Courtney and the JSA find themselves in the fight of their lives against their biggest threat yet.

Plot[]

Nine Months Ago

Sylvester Pemberton's grave is disturbed by the Voyeur and Dragon King. Voyeur gives Dragon King the shovel, demanding he dig. They take Sylvester's body to the underground tunnels, to one of Dragon King's lairs. Dragon King injects Sylvester with a serum that wakes him from his stasis. He gasps back to life and the Voyeur pulls off his mask, revealing himself as Jordan Mahkent/Icicle. Sylvester sees Icicle, who greets Starman again. Sylvester asks what he's doing. Jordan leans close to Sylvester, calling him a friend. He's been in the ground for a long time, but he is needed again. Because a hero like him is someone who is already trusted, respected, and beloved by the public. Americans will listen to him in a way like nobody else. If he gives them suggestions, or orders, even, they will do whatever he says. Icicle imagines they'll even vote for President Pemberton. Dragon King thinks it has a nice ring to it. Leaning even closer, Jordan wants Sylvester to be his mouthpiece. Sylvester nods that it's a great plan, but there's one problem - he'll never work for him. Jordan taps his victim's forehead, knowing how strong-minded he is. That's why they're going to remove it. From the table next to Sylvester, the Ultra-Humanite growls and grumbles. Dragon King clarifies that the Ultra-Humanite will get Sylvester's body, and then Dragon King will get Ultra-Humanite's, in his continuing quest to become something greater. Dragon King turns on the saw as Sylvester begs them to please wait. He asks what they did to Stripesy and where Pat is. Dragon King ignores him as he cuts into Sylvester's head, causing the man to scream in agony.

Present Day

The Ultra-Humanite stands over Pat's freshly buried grave. He says goodbye to Pat and then walks away.

A storm brews over Blue Valley as the JSA convenes in the Whitmore-Dugan House. Courtney reorients everyone that "Sylvester" told Rick about the hourglass's limiter, but he didn't warn Rick what happened to his father years before. "Mr. Pemberton" also told Beth to protect her parents. Courtney realizes that he was really getting her to do was push them away. After all the help they've given Beth, she knows that was a mistake now. "Sylvester" told Yolanda not to let up Cindy, so she never gave her a chance. Barbara wonders why "Sylvester" would purposefully give them all bad advice. One by one, the JSA realizes it was to keep them distracted, to break them apart, to weaken them, and Courtney morosely adds it was to take away their confidence. He took the staff from her and said she wasn't worthy of it. Barbara knows he's dead wrong, but Courtney questions why she couldn't bring it back to her. Yolanda thinks "Sylvester" might have wanted the staff for himself this whole time. Rick doesn't understand why he wouldn't just take it from Court in the first place, why he would wait. Barbara laments that they have to find Pat.

Cameron and his grandparents walk to the upstairs hallway of their home. Jordan asks how the vigil went, learning there's still no sign of Mr. Deisinger. He does have good news for Cameron, as Starman has agreed to let go of their past differences, which Cameron remarks is great. It is, but Jordan's afraid that Courtney and her friends aren't quite so willing yet. The boy wants to convince them, and Jordan leads him a few paces away from Sofus and Lily. He tells Cameron that something has happened to Courtney's stepfather. He's been killed by that aberration of science, the Ultra-Humanite. Sofus tells Jordan in Norwegian to stop lying to the boy, earning a look of surprise from his son and confusion from his grandson. Still in Norwegian, Lily tells Sofus to shut up, calling him an old fool. Their enemies die tonight. Jordan reminds his mother that that's only if they refuse. He wants to try to give his son what he wants. He leads Cameron to his room.

Courtney can't reach Mike on his phone, and Barbara's only getting Pat's voicemail. Beth relays that Zeek has S.T.R.I.P.E. fixed back up, but he hasn't seen Mr. Dugan since he went to the Mahkents'. Rick is ready to start there when Courtney's phone buzzes. She answers a call from Cameron, who tells her Starman is at the junkyard. He asks if she's looking for him and she questions how he knows that. He apologizes as his family is coming so he has to go. She tells him to wait, but he hangs up.

Cameron turns to face his dad. He doesn't like lying to Courtney. Jordan assures Cameron this is the best way to offer Courtney their help in this trying time - face-to-face.

In the woods, the rain beats down on the freshly dug grave. Pat's face breaks through the soil as he groans. He pulls his arms out, grabbing onto the soil as coughs and writhes in pain.

Shiv launches out of a manhole, pulling Jakeem out behind her. She urges them along as Mike struggles to climb out. She pulls open a gate and leads them into an empty lot. They see the Blue Valley Tires sign, with Mike suggesting a foolproof wish to get them out of this mess. A roar splits through the air, and Shiv yanks Jakeem along.

The JSA walks the grounds of Zeek's Junkyard. Dr. Mid-Nite hopes Barbara can find Artemis. Hourman knows she'll be here, as Icicle made her an orphan. Wildcat thinks she'll show up just when they need her. She wonders how Artemis always does that. They stop when they see Icicle, "Starman" who wields the staff, and Sofus, Lily, and Cameron waiting for them. Icicle greets Courtney, though Cameron barely meets her gaze. Icicle stands alongside his family and "Starman" tonight, here on neutral round, with only good intentions. Stargirl asks where Pat is. "Starman" is sorry, but she's gone. Pat came to see him after Jordan and he settled things. He apologized and tried to convince Pat to join forces with both of them, but he refused. He went into the woods alone, looking for the Ultra-Humanite, who killed him. This lands hard with Courtney. As she processes, Icicle tells her that if they're going to get any justice for Pat, they need to team up. She doesn't believe anything he says. "Starman" knows he was harsh earlier, but Stargirl cuts him off. They're both lying, and Sylvester has been lying since he came to Blue Valley. Cameron chimes in for the first time, as he wouldn't lie to her. He's sorry about Pat, he's so sorry, but the only thing they can do now is work together and stop that monster before it hurts anyone else. Stargirl struggles for a moment until a whooshing sound gets everyone's attention. From the sky, S.T.R.I.P.E. appears, landing behind the JSA as his boosters burn into the ground. The motor revs and Stargirl questions if it's Pat. It is him, but that's not Sylvester, it's the Ultra-Humanite. The team turns back to their enemies. Ultra-Humanite rhetorically shouts out if Pat's kidding him, and angrily questions why Stripesy won't die. He shoves past Icicle and blasts S.T.R.I.P.E. with the staff, sending the robot tumbling away. He takes to the air after S.T.R.I.P.E. Lily steps forward as now, the wicked children will freeze. She summons ice to her palms and the JSA assumes their fighting positions.

Over at Blue Valley Tires, Jakeem and Mike try to figure out where to wish themselves. They decide on The Bahamas, somewhere towards the ocean. Dragon King roars then punches the crates the trio is hiding behind. Shiv goes flying through the air as the boys take cover. Dragon King calls out to Cynthia, telling his dear daughter to come now. The boys assemble behind Shiv as Dragon King taunts her that she doesn't belong with them. She belongs with him - she belongs to him. Cindy unsheathes her shiv and asks if he wants to see what his little pet project can really do. She runs towards him and leaps into the air with a shout, just as Dragon King swings at her.

Ultra-Humanite sends blasts of cosmic energy towards S.T.R.I.P.E., causing a car to explode. He lands four blasts on the robot and then pauses for a moment to muse that Pat has a lot of heart. He doesn't know how Pat dug himself out of that grave, but he's going to wish he hadn't. Pat flicks switches and knobs from inside the pilot's chair. He doesn't like looking at Ultra-Humanite and seeing his best friend's face. So he's going to knock it off. He extends his fist and shoots it at Ultra-Humanite, who twirls the staff into a shield that ricochets the punch. He takes into the air and attacks S.T.R.I.P.E. from above, shooting beams of energy as he lands atop a car. S.T.R.I.P.E. picks up a car and throws it at Ultra-Humanite, who spins the staff again, this time throwing it. The staff slices the car into two pieces that fall on either side of its handler. It hits S.T.R.I.P.E. in the chest and then boomerangs back to Ultra-Humanite's waiting hands. He grips either side of the horizontal staff and flies forward, pushing the robot into a car, and triggering an explosion.

Stargirl dodges ice blasts, landing on the roof of a car, just as the explosion from S.T.R.I.P.E. appears behind her. She stands and looks at Cameron, saying that Jordan lied to him. Jordan cuts her off telling her not to say another word. He holds out his hand and she gasps for air as her breath turns to ice. She clutches her throat and falls off the car, rolling onto the ground. Cameron shouts out for Courtney, rushing to her aide. Hourman charges forward and punches Icicle into a car. Courtney gasps for air as Icicle's hold on her fades. Hourman turns to Cameron, telling him not to be a tool. He's being played by his own dad, but he's still going to kick his ass. Cameron gets up and Hourman starts to advance when he suffers a disorientation spell from the hourglass. He tries to throw a punch anyway but misses. Cameron blasts him backward, with Icicle adding a secondary blast that propels him even further away.

Wildcat shouts for Hourman as she sees him fall. However, she can't stop to help him recover, as Lily continues her onslaught of attacks. Wildcat jumps across the tops of the cars, her suit absorbing her impact. She lands through a windshield as more attacks fly her way.

Dr. Mid-Nite staggers away from the site, only to encounter Sofus behind her. Her AI senses an imminent threat and activates combat mode. She assumes a fighting stance as her goggles turn red. He summons ice to his hands.

Ultra-Humanite tells Pat that none of this had to happen. This all could have been so easy. Pat tries to recover as he flicks switches inside S.T.R.I.P.E. Humanite continues to monologue his original plan of Courtney giving up the staff, her friends following him, and them changing the world with Icicle for the better. For Pat's family, too. This could have been perfect for everyone. But Pat couldn't just stay in his lane and just stay dead. He had to fight back. So now, all of them are going to die. Because he will not stop being Starman - ever. He slices through S.T.R.I.P.E.'s chest plate, sending sparks everywhere.

Dr. Mid-Nite squares off with Sofus, though the goggles detect hesitation from him. She tells Mr. Mahkent that she doesn't want to fight him again. He lowers his hands in relief, as neither does he. She tells him they have to stop everyone. Lily barks out for Sofus, appearing from around a corner. She demands that he kill Dr. Mid-Nite, but the man refuses, not wanting any more of this. She warns him in Norwegian to do it or she'll kill him, calling him a useless idiot. He takes a step away from her as she raises her hand, ice appearing. Wildcat lets out a scream as she jumps over Lily, narrowly avoiding a blast. The ice hits a scaffold, breaking one of the metal bars. Wildcat lands between Sofus and Dr. Mid-Nite, who all watch in horror as a car falls from the top of the scaffold toward Lily. She tries to block it with a shield, but the car is too heavy and lands on top of her. They gasp in shock. Wildcat looks to Dr. Mid-Nite, - she didn't do it.

Shiv continues to fight her father but is losing to the oversized mutated gorilla. Mike sits and tells Jakeem to look at him now. He pulls the boy to his level, telling him again to look at him. He puts a hand on Jakeem's shoulder, telling him to do everything they say. Stop overthinking, be direct, be honest, and be specific. Jakeem stands and looks at Shiv, who is about to be torn apart by Dragon King. Her bones crack under his weight. He grumbles that it'll be over soon. Jakeem points Thunderbolt at the duo, wishing the most beautiful woman in the world will never have to be bothered by her father again. Nothing happens and Mike complains that he just said to be specific. Who's to say she's the most beautiful woman in the world? Jakeem turns back to the duo, commanding with the gumption that he does. He said it, the kid with the pen. His eyes glow pink and streaks of pink lightning emerge from his eyes. The energy ripples down his body and triggers the pen, releasing Thunderbolt. The imp cheers that his wish is granted. He launches at Dragon King and scoops him into the air. Shiv struggles to sit as silence falls over the factory. From above, a white stuffed animal gorilla falls with a whistling noise. The pink energy around it slowly fades as it lands promptly in Shiv's lap with a squeak. She picks up the toy with a mixture of surprise and disgust. Thunderbolt emerges from the side, musing that it's for her, his queen, from her not-so-secret admirer. It's Jakeem, it's from Jakeem.

Ultra-Humanite yanks Pat out of the robot, throwing him into a car. He laughs maniacally that there's no more robot.

Stargirl hurries to Hourman's side, checking on him. Icicle gives Courtney one last chance to pledge her loyalty right now. He holds out his hand, ice appearing. He's suddenly shot in the shoulder with an arrow. Everyone looks in shock to see Barbara a few feet away, lowering Paula's crossbow. She warns him to stay away from her daughter. Courtney questions her mom and Icicle pulls the arrow out. Barbara and Stargirl help Hourman to his feet, taking him away. Icicle calls it such a shame. She was going to be so perfect for all of them. Courtney and Cameron would have been together. He knows that he and Barbara could have reignited what they had. Cameron's face falls from behind his father, growing darker. Barbara, dumbfounded, shouts they never had anything. He tells her goodbye and summons ice, ready to shoot it at the trio. Cameron shouts out a no as he tackles his father, sending a blast of ice across the lot.

Ultra-Humanite laughs as he shoots energy near Pat, who seeks shelter behind a car.

The JSA retreats while Stargirl and Barbara help Hourman to cover. Icicle tells Cameron not to do this, sending bursts of ice at his son, who dodges them with parkour while returning his own ice blasts at his father. The Whitmores sit behind a car, where they see Ultra-Humanite shoot another ray at Pat.

Ultra-Humanite laughs as Pat narrowly avoids the attack, calling him a slippery little devil.

Barbara tells Courtney the staff belongs to her. The teen desperately asks why it works for him, then. It's because Courtney thought it should. It's why "Sylvester" couldn't just take the staff. He had to make her believe it worked for him. Another explosion makes Courtney look over to the adjoining lot.

Pat tries to crawl away from the Ultra-Humanite, who twirls the staff happily. He points it at Pat, ready to end this for real this time. He tells Pat goodbye and the staff shifts color to orange, glowing brighter. Stargirl runs in shouting to distract Humanite. She firms says the staff doesn't work for him. Cosmo sputters then shuts down, going dormant in Ultra-Humanite's hands. She readies herself as they rush toward one another. She flips out of the way of his attack and lands, grabbing the staff. It lights up in her grasp and then goes dormant for a moment. She uses it to sweep "Starman" off his feet, though the man recovers with a flip. She swings at him but he grabs the staff, locking onto it with one hand. With his other hand, he tries to take the staff from her by sheer will. The staff jerks and the two warring handlers lock into place with the staff, pushing against one another as they try to pull the staff to their side. A battle of will commences as she tells Ultra-Humanite that he is not worthy. They groan as they push onto the staff. It sends out a blast of energy that sends them flying away from each other. Cosmo stays between them.

Stargirl flips through the air and lands on her feet in a crouch, while Ultra-Humanite skids across the ground. She looks up and triumphantly says, "but I am". She holds out her hand and Cosmo rushes to her grasp, reuniting with its true handler. The pair rise up from the ground slowly, sparks flying from the exploded car. She gives a confident smirk and raises the staff to her side. Pat stands up in pain as he looks at her. Ultra-Humanite watches in anger. Stargirl stands and looks at Cosmo, who warbles. She remarks that she missed it too. Her smile falls as she looks to her enemy, readying herself for a fight. Pat stands in front of Stargirl as Ultra-Humanite stands. Pat looks to Stargirl and nods. The girl runs off and Pat glares at Ultra-Humanite, taunting him as he doesn't have the staff anymore. The men barrel toward one another and fight hand-to-hand, exchanging heavy-hitting blows.

Cameron fights his father and knocks him back a few paces by performing a front flip and kicking him. Jordan painfully tells Cameron not to force him to do what Brainwave did to his son. He holds out one iced hand, begging Cameron, who looks at him in surprise. Their attention is pulled to the sky where Stargirl barrels toward the ground, glowing in cosmic energy. She slams down in front of Cameron, performing the shooting star. The blast sends Jordan flying away from them. The fact that he went there says everything. She charges at him with the staff, now assisting Cameron in fighting Icicle.

Pat and Ultra-Humanite continue their fight. He shouts that Pat's supposed to be his friend, pushing him against a car. Pat snaps back that Humanite's not Sylvester and punches him to the ground.

Stargirl fights Icicle, performing flips and blocks with the staff. She swings it at him as he goes to hit her, ultimately sending a blast of cosmic energy that seers across his face, then burns into the ground. Icicle looks up with a scream as his face sizzles from the cauterized wound. This surprises Stargirl, who stands up from her fighting position. He sends ice at her, which she blocks with the staff. However, the force knocks her backward. She flips over Cameron who grabs the staff to stabilize her. With his free hand, he sends a gust of power at Icicle, striking him in the chest. Icicle recovers quickly, reasoning that he only wanted what was best for Cameron. The boy tearfully tells his father to give up, then. Icicle pulls his hands back as his power appears. He tells Cameron to do what he has to, or he will. Cameron pauses for a moment, then pulls his power forward and slams it into the ground, screaming as he sends a shockwave toward his dad. The power collides with Icicles' to form a cloud of snow, mist, hail, and ice. Icicle's face emerges from the cloud, screaming until it dissipates. Barbara, Hourman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Wildcat, and Sofus look in surprise at what Cameron just did as the mist subsides. Stargirl asks where he went.

Humanite and Pat are locked in a punching match, though Humanite gains the upper hand. He hits Pat to the ground with another punch, and he falls. He sees a rock a few inches away and grabs it. He swings the item at Humanite, striking him across the head with enough force that the rock splinters, knocking Humanite unconscious. Pat stands above him bloody, in pain, tired, yet victorious. He looks down at the body of his friend.

Cameron rushes to Sofus's side, as the man groans weakly. Stargirl walks towards Cameron, hopeful, but tells her to stay back. Her smile fades as she questions it. He's taking his grandfather to get help, and then he's leaving. Overcome with emotion, Cameron admits to betraying Courtney. He betrayed his own family. His grandmother's dead and his father, he can't bring himself to say it as he rests his hand against Sofus'. The men wince in pain together. Stargirl, sympathetic, insists she can help him through this. He meets her gaze and tearfully says goodbye, Courtney. He thrusts his hand to the ground and the Mahkents disappear in a puff of mist. Stargirl looks away as the snow drifts over her. When she looks back, they're both gone.

In the morning, Pat pushes Cosmo's old crate across the basement floor. Courtney twirls Cosmo so it lands in her palm. She looks over at the case next to the bed. The staff warbles and Courtney insists that if he still wants to use the fancy crate, he can. Just because the Ultra-Humanite made it, but she doesn't get to finish. Cosmo twirls her around in excitement and flips over itself. The old crate opens as it rests inside the crate, glowing happily. Pat cheers at the Cosmo is back, closing the lid as the staff goes dormant. He guesses that Cosmo just wants old faithful. She smiles at him, alluding to him as being old faithful. He chuckles at her and takes a seat on the steps. She assures him the statement is because he showed up just in time. He's not sure how he feels about the "old" part, but he's definitely feeling his age today. She asks how in the world he got out, sitting next to him. He had experience - Sylvester's very first adversary took him hostage. A guy by the name of Dr. Weerd - W-E-E-R-D. Anyhow, when Sylvester rescued him, he taught him a little trick. How to disjoint both thumbs so he could slip any restraint. That's what he did down there, and he was able to dig his way out. It's pretty lucky that Sylvester taught him to do that because he thinks he would have died down there. Courtney smiles that Sylvester saved his life one more time, which makes Pat chuckle at the irony. She's really sorry it wasn't really him who came back. He is too, and a moment of silence falls between them. She heard him, or the Ultra-Humanite, say all of those horrible things to Pat down here. She starts to tell Pat what happened when he came back upstairs, and Pat closes the distance between them. He puts his arm around her shoulders. He heard her too. Every word. She smiles tearfully at him and he thanks her. She nods and they rest their heads together.

Meanwhile, at the Chapel Residence, Rick sets the hourglass on the coffee table in front of Beth, Bridget, and James. He's sorry for the way he spoke to all of them. He's not going to blame that on anything other than being a thick-headed jerk. Bridget and James chuckle and she assures him it's alright. James adds they're just glad he's feeling better. He looks to Beth and says thank you, then to the parents, for being there for him. He looks back to Beth with a soft gaze as it's her turn. She nods and nervously stands beside Rick. They exchange a look before she talks to her parents. They've been her guides since she was a kid, and they were her guides when she was Doctor Mid-Nite through all of this. Even when she told them she didn't want them to be. She becomes emotional so Rick puts a supporting hand on her back. She knows they love her, and she loves them too. Rick rubs her back gently in support. She does need their help. She wants their help, so she's asking for it officially. James and Bridget laugh and grin with excitement, questioning if she wants them to be her sidekicks. Beth quickly admits that sounds a little derogatory, but her parents are too eager to let her finish. James leaps over the couch, exclaiming it's a dream. They point to both of them, ready to talk costumes.

Across town at the Blue Valley Medical Center, Dr. Charles McNider scans Sylvester's body with his sunglasses. He tells Pat and Courtney that Sylvester's body is still perfectly fine, but there was a brain bleed that has left the Ultra-Humanite's mind irrevocably damaged. For all intents and purposes, he's brain-dead. Courtney asks what they should do now. Pat tells her they don't worry about the Ultra-Humanite anymore. But she means about Sylvester and his brain. Pat reveals that Humanite said it was gone. Of course, he lied to them every moment of every day. He meets Courtney's gaze. He decides to keep him on life support, just in case.

Across the country in a mountain, inside one of Dragon King's lairs, is a brain inside a case. The tube connects to a monitoring system with chords, a frequency recorder, and a speaker. The speaker replays Sylvester's last words to Icicle before Dragon King cut his brain out. It demands they wait, asking where Stripesy is, and what they did to Pat, followed by screaming. The label for the brain is "Pemberton, Sylvester".

Pat and Barbara park outside Richie Rock's Diner, supporting Mike as someone should be inside. They'll wait outside if that's okay unless he wants them to leave. Mike asks them to wait, and they agree with a forced smile. Barbara wishes Mike luck as he gets out, walking into the diner and passed Maria. Mike's birth mother Maggie Shaw stands from the table by the window, greeting Mike. The duo takes a seat. Pat looks at Barbara and holds her hand.

Courtney walks down a residential street in the rain, holding an umbrella. She stops in front of a quaint house, walking up the path. She sets down the umbrella and knocks on the door. A girl answers, and Courtney asks if she's Becky, introducing herself as Courtney. She knew her dad.

Pat and Barbara watch as Mike hugs Maggie and then leaves the diner. Maggie waves goodbye to Mike and mouths a bye to Pat. Mike gets in the backseat and Pat asks him how it went. It was nice. It seems like she's got some stuff figured out, and seems like she's doing good. Barbara looks away and Mike notices. He thanks Pat for asking if he wanted to see her. Pat's proud of him, which makes Mike nod. He looks at Barbara and says, "thanks mom". She looks at him with an emotional smile. They love him very much. Mike looks between his parents, softly saying he loves them too. Pat nods and starts the car.

Becky reads the letter from her father as Courtney talks. Her father didn't want her to think he abandoned her. He wanted her to know that he loved her. Beck closes the envelope and embraces Courtney, who hugs back after a moment. Becky thanks her then goes back inside, saying goodbye before she closes the door. Courtney turns around and instinctively reaches for her necklace, which isn't there. Her smile falls as memories of her father haunt her. She picks up her umbrella, then continues down the path.

Rick walks into the woods, stopping at Grundy's grave. He lists Brainwave, Dragon King, and Icicle. It seems like everyone else got to come back for a second chance except him. He kneels on the ground. He misses his pal. He stands and takes a step back, just when the ground begins to rumble. A hand shoots through the dirt, splaying debris everywhere. Grundy groans as he comes back to life. Rick chuckles and grins at the sight.

One night at the Whitmore-Dugan House, Mike and Jakeem chase after Buddy, who has hold of the Dragon King gorilla plushie. They shout for him to put it down as it's dangerous and very bad. Jakeem cries out that Buddy ripped his arm off, with Mike exclaiming that's not his arm. Cindy smirks from the smaller kitchen table, asking her daddy if he's having fun. Pat hands Yolanda a bowl of pasta, asking if she minds taking it. She takes it and walks over to the dinner table, where the Chapels and Rick are standing.

Beth tells her dad the dish he brought looks great. Rick asks James and Bridget about being sidekicks. He's decided to be Nite-Lite, while Bridget is choosing Hootie, in honor of Dr. McNider's wise owl. He has the whole suit design, which makes Beth chuckle as she puts her arm around him. Bridget greets Yolanda as she brings the bowl of pasta to the table on her way out of the room. Rick asks what James's powers would be, and he incredulously says he's glowing in the dark, man. Rick chuckles as that's cool. James has some new things and it's going to be great, it's going to be fantastic. Beth smiles that she knows. The group laughs together and talks.

Yolanda walks into the hall and decides to call her mother. Within seconds, Yolanda is brimming with tears. She did lie to her mom. But the truth brought her friends closer to their parents. She hopes it can do that for them, too. Barbara pauses when she sees Yolanda but ultimately heads into the kitchen. She asks Pat where Court is. He's sure she'll be home soon. They embrace in a side hug, looking over at their guests. Beth and Rick ultimately meet on one side of the table, while James pulls out Bridget's chair for her so they can sit. Yolanda joins Beth and Rick, wiping her tears. Beth gives her friend a side hug and a comforting smile. Barbara rests her head on Pat's shoulder, smiling.

Courtney walks down the street under the light of the full moon. She stops in front of the Mahkent house, which is dark inside. She looks up at it and becomes emotional. She doesn't notice the bright light that shines behind her, making the wind blow and her breath noticeable in the air. Snow falls around her and she notices it, looking up at the clear sky. She holds out her hand and catches the snowflakes. She puts her hand against her chest and looks up at the snow for a moment. She hears the wind blowing and turns around to see Cameron standing several feet away. He asks if she really thinks she can help him. She gives an emotional expression and crosses the road. They meet in the middle in a hug. She puts her hand on the back of his neck, resting her head on his shoulder as he holds her. She smiles softly as she looks up at the falling snow.

Copenhagen, Denmark
Three Months Later

Jordan walks down the street when he hears a woman whisper his name, Icicle. She lures him into an alley where he steps on a sticky substance that adheres him to the ground. He looks up to see Artemis Crock standing above him. That goop he's standing on, that's petroleum jelly laced with rubidium, potassium, and azidoazide azide. Her dad put in his hockey pucks. It's highly flammable. She lights a flare, musing that it even burns on water. This is for her parents. She throws the flare onto the substance. He watches in horror as the substance erupts in flames, creeping closer. He screams as his body tries to turn into ice to survive, but the heat is too intense and consuming. His body engulfs in flames as Artemis watches, tears in her eyes. She removes her mask to watch him fall to the ground. He's not coming back this time. She vanishes a few moments later, leaving Jordan's body to burn.

Ten Years From Now

Richard Swift leads a group of eager patrons on a tour of a museum. He guides the ladies and gentlemen, telling them not to be shy. They arrive at the centerpiece of the entire museum. The meeting table of the Justice Society of America. He identifies who sits around the table, pointing at where the chairs would be. Starwoman, Wildcat, Jade and her brother Obsidian, Dragon Queen, S.T.R.I.P.E. 2.0, Jakeem Thunder, Icicle, Artemis, Sand, Damage, as well as Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite. The latter of whose impending nuptials are just around the corner. He proudly says they are officiated by "yours truly", smirking. With those two, come their loyal if somewhat foul-smelling and simple-minded friend, Solomon Grundy.

Banners for each member hang around them, along with exhibits dedicated to their specialties, and wings in honor of Wildcat, Dr. Mid-Nite, Jakeem Thunder, and Dragon Queen. Artifacts surround the museum, including Excalibur, Sandman's mask, a pink pen, and Shiv's scepter. Shade stops at the front of the table. United, they stopped the Injustice Society from brainwashing America, then prevented the demonic brute Eclipso from merging his nightmarish world with theirs. They shut down the Ultra-Humanite before he could tarnish Starman's legacy. They brought the true Sylvester Pemberton back to life. Then, they rescued the Seven Soldiers of Victory from a cosmic deity called The Nebula Man. He turns to look at the table. They're the greatest heroes the world has ever seen. But they won't be the last. Because there are other legacies of heroism waiting for a new generation to find, to take on, to rise up. For as much as evil has tried to destroy the Justice Society of America, it cannot. Nothing can. He smiles proudly.

A portal opens on the other side of the table and The Flash speeds through, slicing the JSA table in half. Shade shouts about not breaking the table. He turns to stare at the broken pieces, then turns in annoyance. He turns to see The Flash, who skids to a halt a few feet from the tourists. Shade recognizes him as Flash, and the hero greets his old friend. He tells Shade the Justice Society is needed. According to Courtney Whitmore, that includes Shade now, too. He tells Shade to gather the troops. Their adventures are not over. Shade sighs and asks if they ever are. Flash puts on his helmet as Shade looks to the side, wondering what adventure the JSA will take on next.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • This is the final episode of the series.
  • The timeline of the episode confirms that Dragon King did recover from his stabbing and was hiding in the underground tunnels with Icicle. Nine months ago, they awakened Sylvester from his stasis, as the man's brain did heal along with the rest of his body.
    • This is the only episode in which Ultra-Humanite appears in his gorilla form and the first of the season where Sylvester appears as himself. It is also the only episode of the season in which Joel McHale portrays Sylvester.
  • This is the first episode since "Stargirl" to feature the exterior of Blue Valley Tires. It was previously seen during Courtney's first fight against Brainwave.
  • Brainwave is mentioned. He was last seen in the Season 1 episode, "Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. Part Two".
  • Henry King Jr. is mentioned. He was last seen in the Season 1 episode "Brainwave Jr.". His untimely fate at the hands of his father, who crushed him to death by collapsing a tunnel on him, is also mentioned.
  • Cameron said he didn’t like lying to Courtney over the phone. This is only proven partly true as he did trick the JSA into walking into a trap, but he did tell Courtney that Starman was at the junkyard and he was. Cameron did also say to Courtney that he wouldn’t lie to her. So technically Cameron didn’t lie to Courtney.
  • Lily's death might be a reference to The Wizard Of Oz, as her death mirrors that of the Wicked Witch of the East who dies in the beginning of the film. Both were crushed by objects much larger than them - a car and a house respectively - in spite of their seemingly magical abilities. Both women's legs were seen sticking out from under the object that crushed them.
  • Jordan's gruesome death by fire references Lily's album when she looks at images of her family's persecution by fire. This is also something Sofus references in "Chapter Eleven: The Haunting".
  • Green Lantern's quote inscribed on the wall of the JSA's headquarters in 2031 is taken from his oath in All-American Comics Volume 1 #16.
  • According to the Shade, the JSA's 2031 roster includes Starwoman (formerly Stargirl), Wildcat, Jade, Obsidian, Dragon Queen (formerly Shiv), S.T.R.I.P.E. 2.0, Jakeem Thunder, Icicle, Artemis, Sand, Damage, Hourman, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Solomon Grundy. The Flash also stated that the Shade is a member, courtesy of Starwoman.
